Nahantsi: A Novelette

In Kubra’s Vodun Hut, behind the iron window bars and sun-faded sign that dolefully promised REAL AUTHENTIC WEST AFRICAN MAGIC AND CHARMS, Kubra was all vodun and Nahantsi was the little boy. Not her little boy, of course. Just the little boy. Of all things that would never be, Nahantsi would never beherlittle boy ever again.

Nahantsi, my first novelette, is set in the Nigerian savanna. I wanted to explore the changes that the unwanted encroachment of the Orishas would have a seemingly perfect mother-son relationship. In writing it, I hoped to pay my respect to the rich mythology of the region.
